At first all you see is modern typography, but there is actually a hidden meaning in Sony’s VAIO logo. The first two letters represent an analog signal and the last two are the 1 and 0 of the digital world.

Interesting!

How to be more productive in 4 small steps

Productive: It can have many different meanings and definitions. What does the word ‘productive’ mean to you? I’m sure if we ask several different people, we may get several different answers.

In my opinion, being productive means getting the highest priority level task at this time finished and completed with accuracy. Many different task can be productive and many different task can be counter-productive.

Watching a Youtube video on a subject matter that teaches you a skill is productive if that is the proper task you have at that time. Now, if you interrupt a high-priority task with that video, then it’s not so productive.

You have to learn to prioritize in order to be super productive. The reality is all task need to be completed, so its not about balancing the task it is about making sure you are completing the right task at the right time. Some task come with deadlines, some do not. If your to-do list consist of writing a blog post, emailing a proposal to a potential client, calling on future business, reviewing website analytics, or anything else that may be on your list, you have to figure out a priority list to know which task is most important. If not, you could miss out on a new client, lose current business, or if you work for someone else, get fired.

Focus - This word alone will help you stay productive. How do you stay focused?

1. Work with purpose: Write down your task or goals and keep them in front of you at all times. If you lose purpose, you will lose interest and the task will become less priority for you.

2. Eliminate distraction: It kills us all. It is everywhere. In a world that is ‘Super Connected’ with mobile devices, tablets, laptops, and un-productive people, distractions are everywhere. Find ways to keep them shut out during important times.

3. Not all action is good: Make a list of the actions you know you should quit doing everyday. You know what I’m talking about. It is different for all of us, but we all have those items that should be on a “not to-do list.”

4. Find motivation: Motivation comes from within us. Yes, sometimes the people we are surrounded with will help keep us motivated, but at the end of the day it is up to you. It could be family, money, legacy, promotion, or a number of other things. Find what works for you and embrace it. You can also surround yourself with little reminders like the mug in the picture.

We can all be more productive, and the answers aren’t the same for all of us. They key is to remember that it doesn’t take a BIG change in most cases, just some small sustainable changes that will create the right habits to make you productive.

Quick Tips to Stick to That Resolution

Who made a New Year’s Resolution? If you raised your hand, keep in mind you have only taken the first step to changing your habit.

Realizing that you need to make a change is the 1st step. You are past that. Now, how do we make sure you make it stick and develop the new habit. Here are three quick thoughts to help you make the change.

1. Commit: Without true commitment, your resolution doesn’t stand a chance. Make the change part of your life. Put a notebook or journal next to your bed and write down your resolution before bed each night, and first thing in the mooring when you wake up. It works.

2. Discipline: You can make all the resolutions you want, but if you don’t take the mental discipline to carry through with them, then you are wasting your time. Even if you write them down, you have to be willing to dedicate yourself to the change.

3. Take the Action: Lets face it, with out actually doing it, you won’t make the change. Get up, get busy, and take action towards your new goal.

Happy New Year everyone!

Be Smart and Safe on New Years Eve

New Year’s Eve is always a great time of year as most people take some time to celebrate the new year, remembering the past year, and looking forward to positive changes they hope to make in the coming year.

A lot of times the New Years celebration includes the consumption of alcohol (mine will) and that can be dangerous if not handled properly.

If you drink and need to get home, please make sure you plan ahead and make the proper arrangements such as a designated driver, taxi, or other service.

One service that I am a big fan of is Uber. It is new to the Indy area in 2013, but has also been started in several other areas. Take a look to see if Uber is available in your city and download the app (available on iTunes and Google Play) on your phone before you head out tonight. They will be busy with a higher demand tonight due to the amount of people out celebrating. Below is an image of how their surge fees work, and a breakdown of their anticipated busy times over New Year’s Eve.
